Sometimes the goal is clear to see, like a net at each end of the rink. Keep ot out of yours and put it on their net. In everyday life it is a little harder to identify because your goals frequently shift and change over time.
Having a vision allows whatever problem you come up against seem minor compared to the reward offered by the bigger picture. Goals can guild you along and keeping you motivate, but no one has acheived every single one of their goals...keeping your vision of what you want will keep you on course and keep you moving forward to what you want. Knowing, really knowing you will get there is more important than getting there...believe in yourself!
For athletes, this may be the Olympic Games, playing at the world cup or making a Jr. A Hockey Team....all are big tasks, and when you look at it as one event it is daunting...but by looking at what you can do today, you focus on what you can control. Improve today so you can improve more tomorrow...don't worry about what happened yesterday, don't worry about what will happen tomorrow...do what you can today and build on it. Learn everyday and you will get where you want to be...because you will be where you want to be today. Most of all be positive, patient and persistent ;-)
