What can Somatics do for me?

  • Somatics is a practice that teaches you how to be pain free. 
  • Somatics does this by going to the root of your muscle pain. It teaches you to work with your brain in retraining your muscles to relax. This results in improved muscle function, muscle control, and long term pain relief. 
  • Somatics is about education in and for the body. Muscles learn to become tight due to reflexes being sent to the brain. Therefore, in order to relax them, a reflex to relax must be sent to override the reflex to be tight. This is done by educating to brain to recognize sensations and movements. 
  • Somatics education also teaches you in an intellectual manner about what actually causes muscles to be sore, tight, and numb in the first place. Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA) is responsible for around  50% of musculature challenges in the body. The condition occurs in response to stress caused by accidents, injury, surgery and emotional and psychological stress. SMA also results in anxiety, shallow breathing, low energy, lack of mental focus and several other acute conditions that cause us to lose control over our muscles and movement. 
  • Somatics teaches you to release full body pattern of muscular tightness that causes you to move tightly and inefficiently. These patterns manifest as back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica pain, scoliosis, leg length discrepancy, and many other common muscle pain conditions. 
  • Stress Resilience. Being aware of how you respond to daily stressors better enables you to self correct. More self awareness means more adaptability and self improvement. 
  • Somatics is a lifelong skill. Once you know the movements you can use them when you need them for relief and better yet to prevent pain the first place. 
  • Most importantly, Somatics puts you back in control of your self care. Passive methods offer short term solutions and are done to the body. A fully integrated educational method means you are actively involved in changing how you feel, respond and move. You become fully embodied in body mind and spirit and in turn are able to self actualize your potentials.
